Yogyakarta - In an effort to build local capabilities in the field of cyber security, the Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) ICT Team took part in cyber security training with a focus on penetration testing (pentest), Red Team, and Blue Team. This activity was attended by 4 staff from UPA ICT. The training takes place over three days from Wednesday, 30 October to 1 November 2024 at the Sinau Jogja training center, and aims to equip participants with technical skills in detecting, preventing and responding to cyber security threats.
Skills Development through Three Main Stages
This training program is designed comprehensively to prepare participants to face cyber threats from various sides. Guided by experts in the field of cyber security, this training is divided into three stages, namely pentest, Red Team, and Blue Team.
Pentest (Penetration Testing)
The first stage of training is the pentest, where participants learn to identify weaknesses in systems and applications by simulating attacks. They are introduced to ethical hacking techniques to find security gaps that can be exploited by irresponsible parties. Through this simulation, participants gain an in-depth understanding of how attacks can be carried out and how these gaps can be repaired.
Red Team
At this stage, participants take the role of the Red Team, or attack team, which is tasked with carrying out simulated attacks on a predetermined system. They are taught various methods used by hackers, such as attacks based on social engineering, phishing, and network exploitation techniques. This training provides important insight into the tactics and tools used to attack systems and tests the defense team's resilience.
Blue Team
As a defense team, the Blue Team is trained to detect, respond and mitigate attacks carried out by the Red Team. Participants are trained to use log detection and analysis tools, as well as develop strategies to maintain overall system security. By focusing on defense, participants gain critical skills in maintaining system integrity and preventing repeat attacks.
Building Cyber Security Readiness and Collaboration
This training is not only to improve participants' technical skills, but also to facilitate collaboration between cyber security professionals with instructors who are practitioners and academics in Yogyakarta. Through intense attack simulations, Red Team and Blue Team participants are invited to go head-to-head in real-world scenarios, allowing them to hone their analytical skills and resilience to increasingly sophisticated attacks.
In the future, UPA ICT will continue to improve the abilities/competence of its staff/employees through similar training on a regular basis. With more and more competent experts, the Polines IT Team can protect its infrastructure/systems against cyber threats and make a significant contribution to national digital security in general and Polines in particular.
